Millrise Community Ultimatum
SO YOU LIKE TO SKATE?
READ ON – THIS could AFFECT YOU!
You may have been among the many residents of Millrise and neighbouring communities who have used the outdoor skating rink and the recreational skating oval at the Millrise Community facility during this last winter and you may be looking forward to using the rink again next winter.
Before you sharpen up your skates and get your hockey sticks out in October you should be aware of the following facts.
1.The skating rink. Oval and the associated facilities are the property of the Millrise Community Association, built, with funds raised by the Community Association through Bingos Casinos and matching grants, and maintained by the Millrise Community association through revenue from memberships.
2.Day to day maintenance and preparation of the ice is done entirely by a team of volunteers
3.These facilities are situated on land leased from the City of Calgary and a condition of the lease is that they should be maintained by the Community Association IN GOOD ORDER.
4.In the event that the Millrise Community Association fails to maintain and operate the facilities the City will terminate the lease and dispose of the property as they see fit. - THERE WILL BE NO MORE SKATING
5.Because membership in the Millrise Community Association has been falling, the Association is very concerned that within the next 12 months there will be insufficient funds to continue to operate the facilities.
6. Furthermore, the number of vacancies on the Board of Directors means that the Association lacks the volunteer base to promote events and encourage membership.
7. Unless this trend is reversed, volunteers come forward to serve on the Board and MORE memberships are sold, the rink and facilities will cease operation in the near future. SKATERS AND RESIDENTS OF MILLRISE, - THE CHOICE IS YOURS!
